Throughout the year, Camp Oakes hosts a variety of special events, for Oakes campers and families, as well as other groups.




RTMC ASTRONOMY CONFERENCE(Memorial Day Weekend)
     May 22-25, 2009. The YMCA Camp Oakes observatory is the focal point of one of the largest amateur astronomers conferences in the world. The Riverside Telescope Makers Conference features video hookups with the telescope at Mt. Wilson, world-renowned speakers, an Astronomy swap meet, and a myriad of vendors. DSAOC CAMP (Labor Day Weekend) September 4-7, 2009. The Down Syndrome Association of Orange County is offering an exciting weekend for families of all ages who have a family member with Down Syndrome. Bring your family to this rustic mountain retreat center operated by the YMCA of Long Beach for three days of fresh air, camaraderie, activities, relaxation, great food, campfires, and more!!! This is a real memory-maker for your family. Camp activities run by YMCA staff include horseback riding, hayrides, swimming, canoe races, wall and rope courses, arts and crafts, hiking, an observatory for star gazing, and memorable campfires. The dining center serves delicious meals and special dietary needs can be accommodated. Fees include all meals (Saturday breakfast through Monday lunch), accommodations and all activities.
